About

A model can summarise any paper ever written in a few seconds. So the conclusion isn't scarce anymore. What's scarce is the reasoning: the assumptions, the evidence, the step where you'd have pushed back. That's the part worth an evening. NEAR Builder’s Cafe reads the originals, and asks one question of each: what changes now that machines can read, reason and act on this? Some texts are about AI. Turing asking whether machines can think. Shannon's 1948 theory of information. "Attention Is All You Need". Sutton's "Bitter Lesson". Some are from fields AI is about to rewrite. Hayek on how knowledge is spread across a society. Ostrom on how communities govern what they share. The judgment that made privacy a fundamental right in India. Each evening, up to three people bring one text each and take the room through it: Bring the original, not a summary. State the one claim you'd defend. Show where it could break, and where AI breaks it. Anyone can interrupt. The room is built across fields on purpose. A biologist and a lawyer read the same agent paper differently, and both catch something the engineer missed. We approve guests so that no single field makes up the majority. Every evening ends on one question: what can be built now that couldn't be before? This edition TBD
